Looking at maybe putting together a 30br for local club 100yd benchrest and was wondering what die setups you guys prefer? Would a full length bushing die be accurate enough ?

Also what is your reloading procedure for the 30br?

Thanks

The only thing used by BR shooters any more is full length bushing dies..... the days of "bump dies" and "neck size only" are long gone.

But the "full length bushing dies" are custom made, fitted to each individual chamber. IF you have a gunsmith who can cut duplicate chambers, the general idea is to use his reamer and reamer specs and have him do all your work OR, own your own chambering reamer and again, have him do your work so your chambers are identical.

Now you have a die fitted by one of the 4-5 reputable die-makers in the market. I'll suggest Harrell's Precision for your first one.

As far as reloading procedure...... it's a topic of much argument but my preferred method is...... "however you do it, your bolt must fall shut or at least close very easily and yet your brass cases must last a long time. My method is bone simple, make it so cases last 20-30 reloads without trimming them for length. IF YOU CAN DO THAT all else is simple-pimple

IMHO, the Whidden 30BR https://www.whiddengunworks.com/product/sizer-reloading-dies/ has always worked well with any of mine. Harrellís is another great choice if you can get some fired cases to them. Both are great folks to deal with and will help in anyway they can.

As far as setting it up, I agree with AL that I want the bolt to just fall shut on a resized piece of brass. If you make up 100 good pieces youíll likely rebarrel that rifle before the brass goes bad. About the only way Iíve killed 30BR brass is letting it fall off the bench and stepping on it when try to find it. Good luck and keep us posted, most everyone here is willing to help.

I had a set of Whidden Custom dies made for my 30BR. Full length with bushing neck. I do have a Wilson Seating Die for the arbor press too.
